Postnatal Catch-Up Growth Programs Telomere Dynamics and Glucose Intolerance in Low Birth Weight Mice

چکیده
Low birth weight and rapid postnatal gain are independent predictors of obesity diabetes in adult life, yet the molecular events involved this process remain unknown. In inbred outbred mice, study examines natural intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) relation to body weight, telomere length (TL), glucose tolerance, factor gene (Igf1, Igf2, Insr, Igf1r, Igf2r) mRNA expression levels brain, liver, muscle at 2- 10 days age then 3- 9 months age. At birth, ~15% animals showed IUGR, but by 3 months, half these had regained same as controls without IUGR (recuperated group). days, there was no difference TL between undergoing controls. However, age, recuperated shorter than control IUGR-non also intolerance. Further, compared controls, Igf1 Igf2 lower Day 2-IUGR while Igf2r Insr higher D10-IUGR animals. Moreover, only group were brain liver Igf1, IUGR-non-recuperated groups. These data indicate that catch-up not per se affects suggest a role latter insulin/insulin-like signaling pathway during early development.

Catch up growth and its determinants in low birth weight babies: a study using Z scores.
Two hundred and forty seven low birthweight (LBW) survivors of our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and 164 normal birthweight controls were followed up longitudinally from birth to 4 years and their growth trends (weight, height, head circumference) were expressed as mean Z scores in 500 g birthweight categories. Whereas LBW's demonstrated rapid growth in the first 6 months of life, followed by ge...
متن کاملA twin study of cognitive costs of low birth weight and catch-up growth.
OBJECTIVE To investigate whether there is an association between catch-up growth and cognitive performance in humans. STUDY DESIGN Catch-up growth was defined as the change in weight standard deviation scores during the first 2 years of life. Cognitive performance was assessed with psychometric IQ tests, administered at ages 12 and 18 years. Data were collected in twin pairs, and analyses wer...
متن کاملAccelerated senescence in kidneys of low-birth-weight rats after catch-up growth.
Epidemiological studies show a strong association between low birth weight and hypertension, renal, and cardiovascular disease, especially after catch-up growth. Senescence is an important contributor to the progression of chronic disease. Developmentally programmed premature senescence may be a link among low birth weight, catch-up growth, and adult disease. Low birth weight was induced by fee...
متن کاملAccelerated Postnatal Growth Increases Lipogenic Gene Expression and Adipocyte Size in Low–Birth Weight Mice
OBJECTIVE To characterize the hormonal milieu and adipose gene expression in response to catch-up growth (CUG), a growth pattern associated with obesity and diabetes risk, in a mouse model of low birth weight (LBW). RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS ICR mice were food restricted by 50% from gestational days 12.5-18.5, reducing offspring birth weight by 25%. During the suckling period, dams were eit...
متن کاملThe structural alteration of gut microbiota in low-birth-weight mice undergoing accelerated postnatal growth
The transient disruption of gut microbiota in infancy by antibiotics causes adult adiposity in mice. Accelerated postnatal growth (A) leads to a higher risk of adult metabolic syndrome in low birth-weight (LB) humans than in normal birth-weight (NB) individuals, but the underlying mechanism remains unclear. Here, we set up an experiment using LB + A mice, NB + A mice, and control mice with NB a...
